Lefkada is a beautiful island of the Ionian Sea, embraced by turquoise waters and filled with verdant forests. Travelers here get stunned by the magnitude of beauty and the grandeur of unspoiled landscapes. Visiting the sights and attractions of the island, the quaint little villages and the vibrant Lefkada Town is an experience to remember. But another, equally thrilling, experience is a cruise to the smaller islands of Lefkada, called Tilevoides. Departing from the harbor by the bridge that connects the island to the mainland, you are in for quite an adventure!
Skorpios is undoubtedly the most famous island adjacent to Lefkada. Right opposite Nidri on the eastern coastline of the island, this place has been related to glamor and extravaganza. The reason for that is none other than Onassis. The Greek tycoon and pioneer Aristotle Onassis purchased Skorpios from a local family and turned it into a Heaven on Earth. A sliver of Paradise, with thousands of trees and impressive mansions. This is where lots of celebrities flocked for memorable parties. And it is the place where Jackie Kennedy Onassis fell in love and found peace. Now it belongs to the Russian businessman and investor, Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Meganisi or Meganissi is the largest island of the complex of Tilevoides. Hence its name, since Meganisi actually means Large Island. It is located just 4 nautical miles off the southeastern coasts of Lefkada and is home to three picturesque villages. The island is evergreen and is said to have been inhabited since the Neolithic Era. Ever since antiquity, the Corinthians and then locals have found shelter to Meganisi, due to its welcoming environment and proximity to land.
Kalamos is yet another islet of the southeastern shores of Lefkada, just across Mytikas from Akarnania. It is really serene as a destination, but during summer inhabitants double in numbers and tourists come over for a quiet day at sea. And then there is Kastos, a little further away from Kalamos. If you are looking for absolute tranquility in an idyllic ambiance, then this is certain to captivate your senses. Local fishermen weave their nets and sell the catch of the day by the shore. The few traditional taverns offer fish and seafood right from the sea to your plate. And everything flows so smoothly, in a relaxed and treasured way…
Last but not least in our list with small islands of Lefkada, the island of Madouri. It is situated opposite Nidri, just like Skorpios. The place bursts with lush greenery. It has been the home of the famous Lefkadian poet, Aristotelis Valaoritis. You cannot reach the island without special permission, but it is thrilling to gaze at its pure beauty on board a cruise ship or a caique.
All these small islands of Lefkada complement the dazzling beauty and watery bliss of the Ionian Sea, in the most marvelous manner. And keep in mind that during the daily cruises operating at the port of Lefkada Town, you may as easily include a visit to Ithaca, Paxoi islands and Kefalonia with the fabulous beach of Myrtos! The ultimate summer treat for you and those you hold dear!
