The first Museum was on the Acropolis itself, however continuous excavations on the site uncovered many new artifacts which exceeded the museum&#8217;s capacity, creating the need for the construction of the <strong>New Acropolis Museum.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An additional motivation for the construction of a new museum was the requests for the return of the Parthenon Marbles\u00a0from the United Kingdom, as it was suggested by some British officials that Greece had no suitable location where they could be displayed. Creation of a gallery for the display of the Parthenon Marbles has been key to all recent proposals for the design of a new museum.<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Acropolis Museum\u00a0<\/b>focuses on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis site.\u00a0The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1636\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1636\" style=\"width: 591px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/agents.travel-zone-greece.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7d9ed6addf679ccc4c37ea846b4f7342-e1484630721238.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1636\" src=\"http:\/\/agents.travel-zone-greece.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7d9ed6addf679ccc4c37ea846b4f7342-300x129.jpg\" alt=\"top floor\" width=\"591\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1636\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">top floor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The museum was founded in 2003, while the Organization of the Museum was established in 2008. It opened to the public on 20 June 2009.
