<\/p>\nIn the Epirus region of Northwestern Greece lies Acheron River, one of the most famous places in Greek mythology. According to the myth, this was one of the five Rivers of the Underworld, where the Olympian God Hermes guided souls to Hades. Although this might sound macabre, it totally reflects the natural significance of the river, along with Acheron Gorge and all the other natural landscapes on site. With the crystalline waters splashing around and creating mystical echoes (this is where the name Acheron was probably conceived, depicting the sounds of the water in the river), this is a sight for sore eyes indeed.<\/p>\n

You will find the Springs of Acheron in the mountain of Souli, at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level. They are just a couple of miles from Gliki village. There is an intriguing story about Gliki, which means Sweet. Back in the day, a poisonous dragon lived in the area and made the waters impossible to drink without dying. Then, Aidonatos managed to kill the dragon and soon after the waters became sweet. In his honor, the locals have been worshiping Ai Donatos (Saint Donatos) as their patron and protector. It is also worth pointing out that the area has been protected as Natura 2000 ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Starting from Gliki village, you will then head to\u00a0Skala Tzavelainas and this is one of the best sightseeing options during the path. Passing through the Cave of the Dragon, you will also see Ntala arch bridge and\u00a0the Tableland of Souli (or else known as Samoniva village). And the journey holds several hidden treasures that are waiting patiently to be revealed throughout your hiking and wading route.<\/p>\n

If you love nature, then Acheron Gorge is just the place to be. And according to your mood and preferences, there are many other activities on site besides walking and admiring nature. You may indulge in horse riding, rafting of various difficulty levels, canyoning, paragliding and even swimming.
