First and foremost,\u00a0the Transfiguration of the Savior and Diocese of Syros. This church dates back to 1824 by refugees\u00a0from the islands of Chios and Psara. The temple is purely mesmeric,\u00a0a 3-aisled Basilica with two bell towers and a dome. Its historic value is without a question, as it features the Bell of Saint Nicholas from Psara and several other monuments that the islanders had taken from their homes, before leaving.\u00a0In terms of architecture, many claim that it resembles another iconic temple of Greece, the\u00a0Church of our Lady in Tinos. Besides that, the church is well known for the wonderful mosaic of black and white in the yard, the old icons and amazing decorations. Anthimos Gazis has been buried on site, while the Ecclesiastical Museum is a breath from the church, hosting some priceless treasures from the religious past of the Greeks.<\/p>\n

We move forward with the Assumption of the Virgin,\u00a0or Koimisis tis Theotokou in Greek, is a grandiose example of spiritual supremacy. It is located\u00a0in the heart of Ermoupolis, at the main square. If you are familiar with Domenikos Theotokopoulos, or else known as El Greco (The Greek), you will be thrilled to find out that here you can see one of his finest masterpieces of art. Wood and marble co-exist in the interior of the temple, creating a mystical and alluring environment.\u00a0Then, there is the Church of Resurrection. Nestled on top of the hill in Ermoupolis, the church\u00a0dates back to 1874. It is a 3-aisled church of Byzantine style with two large bell towers and a dome. Indoors, the architecture and design are neoclassical.<\/span><\/p>\n Syros churches could not be complete without the Church of Saint Nicholas (Agios Nikolaos). First built in 1848, this temple is located\u00a0within short distance from Miaouli Square\u00a0and was completed in 1870. In fact, this is the most recognizable church on the island, as it can be seen even when reaching the harbor. It stretches in two different levels and is made of white marble. The fabulous\u00a0iconostasis and the large blue dome will captivate your attention, for sure.
