Up on the hill, a small cave means so much for Christianity that attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. This is where Saint John (or Agios Ioannis) heard God speak to him. The voice of God dictated what he then wrote in the emblematic Book of Revelation. The Cave has been declared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travel-zone-greece.com\/blog\/unesco-world-heritage-sites-in-greece\/\">World Heritage Site by UNESCO<\/a>, along with Saint John&#8217;s Monastery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travel-zone-greece.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Cave-of-the-Apocalypse-2-e1537983721885.jpg\" alt=\"Cave of the Apocalypse\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Saint John found shelter at the Cave of the Apocalypse during his exile by Domitianos. It was his everlasting love for the Word of God that led to this exile. In Patmos he found the inspiration he needed to record the last chapter of the Bible. A chapter filled with intense images that represents the essence of Christianity. Coming from divine inspiration, the book is a must-read.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travel-zone-greece.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Cave-of-the-Apocalypse-3-e1537983697911.jpg\" alt=\"Cave of the Apocalypse\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As soon as you visit the cave, you immediately feel different. An overwhelming sense of devoutness surrounds you. There is a triple crack, representing the Holy Trinity. This is where the voice of God sprang from. You will also see where Saint John used to sleep and a few markings from his hand and head. Saint John had the company and support of his disciple, Prochoros. In the cave, you can also see his lectern.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travel-zone-greece.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Cave-of-the-Apocalypse-4-e1537983610301.jpg\" alt=\"Cave of the Apocalypse\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Cave of the Apocalypse is a place of worship. A place where the pilgrims witness a strong divine identity. In the area, there is also the temple of Saint Anna. The island of Patmos is world renowned as a sacred place and a preferred destination in religious tourism. When you are in Patmos, you should visit the cave, along with the monastery of Saint John the Theologian.
