At the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, nature comes to life in this natural monument of particular environmental, geological and paleontological value. A forest that has been turned to stone, a place where the past is carved in every inch of the logs, the branches, the surrounding areas.
The museum was launched in 1994 and is located in the picturesque settlement of Sigri. And once the visitor reaches the site, there are many options to consider. Either strolling around the herb garden and smelling the aromas of local flora or heading for the fossils and the permanent exhibitions. There is also a library, a place where you can buy souvenirs and of course a snack bar, so that you can enjoy the lovely scenery while sipping on coffee and having a treat.
As for the exhibits at the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, over 40 different species have been found in the area. Petrified leaves, leaf imprints and various plants and trees, as well as evidence of animals in the region are all on display.
