Mesmerizing Chios Beaches

Located in the Northern Aegean Sea, Chios is the fifth largest island in Greece and one of the most beautiful destinations 365 days a year. However, summer is the quintessence for those seeking to explore the Greek islands and Chios beaches make it even more tempting to do so. Some are well organized and welcome water sports, families with kids and party enthusiasts, while others are more secluded and are perfect for those in search of a quiet, quaint Paradise on Earth. Find out more about the beaches of Chios and decide for yourself!

If we only had to choose one beach in Chios, this would definitely be Mavra Volia. It is located on the southwestern coast of the island and features black pebbles. This is where its name comes from. Surrounded by rocky formations that have been sculpted by the salty winds over the years, this beach has a strong volcanic identity. The black pebbles blend most wonderfully with the turquoise waters and the azure horizon with the white clouds, creating a sight for sore eyes. Sometimes you may hear locals call this place the Volcano Beach and it is found in Emporios.

Just 4 kilometers from Chios Town, Vrontados beach is another exquisite option for those in love with crystalline waters. Tall pine trees offer their generous shade and the beach is partly organized. This means that you are able to find some spots with sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as food and drink throughout the day. Fish taverns are the best, lining up along the shore! And moving forward with the best Chios beaches, Karfas is found on one of the largest resorts on the island. Great tourist facilities, soft silky sand and azure waters complete a magical picture-perfect environment.

Megas Limnionas is another popular beach in Chios, close to Karfas. It also features soft sand mixed with pebbles and shallow waters, ideal for younger swimmers. Agia Fotini and Agia Irini are two more beaches of the same character, partly organized and with amazing landscapes to admire. And for those who wish an entirely different experience, perhaps Didima is a wonderful chance for you to enjoy absolute isolation in a natural haven. These are actually two small coves, identical in size and looks (hence Didima, which means Twins). Lithi, Apothika, Lefkathia and Lampsa, Papalia and so much more are all there for you to see…once you start exploring Chios beaches, you cannot stop!
