The Mesmeric Litochoro in Pieria

Have you been searching for the perfect 365 destination in Northern Greece, with proximity to the sea and still close enough to embrace a special mountain feel? If this is the case, then Litochoro is just the right place to be! Set on the highest peak of the mountain, Mytikas, the settlement of Litochoro is still just a few miles from the sea. Therefore, it offers dramatic views to the Thermaic Gulf and its western shores. Resembling the Macedonian style of architecture, the entire area is purely enchanting to those lucky enough to travel and visit the village. Dating back to the 14th century, it still maintains the romantic aura of past times with a present feel that adds to its overall charms.

You will be thrilled to stroll around the old neighborhoods with the stone paved streets and the tiny squares that appear in between the traditional houses. There is a pine-tree park called Katounia that is a must-see during your stay in Litochoro, along with the church of Agia Paraskevi and the monastery of Agios Dionysios. This is where you will find the Ecclesiastical Byzantine Museum, while the whole monastery dates back to the 16th century. To the east, you will see Plaka Litochorou that stretches all the way to the Thermaic Gulf. To the south, Limenas Litochorou extends or else known as Gritsa.

As for points of interest, there are more than a few. Olympus National Park Information Center and the Nautical Museum, the Archaeological Park of Dion and Leivithra with the imposing acropolis, as well as the breathtaking building dedicated to Alexander the Great bearing his name (Alexandrion), should not be missed. But really, once you are in Litochoro you will feel like time is never enough. Visiting Thessaloniki is always an option, due to its proximity. Or heading to the other side of Halkidiki for watery adventures at the marvelous coasts. But even if you stay in this lovely town, you will realize that it is more than pleasing…
