The Famous Thermia in Kythnos

Kythnos is an island of Cyclades, easily accessible from Piraeus port within a few hours. This is why it has been transformed into a weekend getaway over the past few years, even though many people also select this destination for longer vacations. Picturesque beaches, majestic landscapes and warm welcoming people compose a marvelous holiday retreat. And to top it off, Kythnos is also known for its thermal springs and hydrotherapy facilities. After all, it is also called Thermia (and this is Greek for Warm Waters).

Ever since antiquity, in the northeastern part of the island Loutra is found. This is the place where former King Otto created Spa facilities for his wife, as she had encountered fertility issues in the past. There are two thermal springs on site, Kakavos and Agioi Anargiroi. The former one reaches 52 degrees Celsius and consists of iodine, bromine and chlorine. On the contrary, the latter one only goes up to 38 degrees Celsius and is mostly saline water. Once you access the thermal spa facilities, you will have the opportunity to admire the lavish marble baths from Pentelikon marble and the equipment from well over a century ago.

However, the Spa is still open to the public and many people indulge in hydrotherapy and various water treatments. Especially those suffering from chronic pain and rheumatism, arthritis and other problems with the joints or of course gynecological issues, find a shelter in Kythnos or else Thermia. Every day the Spa facilities are open from 10 in the morning till 6 in the afternoon. There, you may pamper yourself through a soothing bath and enjoy the peace and quiet.
