A daily direct flight between Athens and New York Emirates has announced!
The new route, which will start from Dubai, with a stopover in Athens with a final destination of the International Airport of New York, will start from 12 March 2017.
The flight will be operated by an aircraft type Boeing 777-300ER, offering 8 seats in the “First Class” 42 in the “Business” and 304 seats in the “Economy Class” and will have a 19 tonnes of freight load capacity.
According to the airline, Athens is a market that presents significant investment opportunities, especially in today’s highly competitive environment in the airline industry.
According to measurements and surveys of Athens International Airport (AIA), passenger traffic between Athens and the US with a stopover exceeds annually to 570,000 passengers, while only in the summer of 2016, the move to direct flights (seasonal connections) to New York increased by 52%, reaching 156,000 passengers.
Therefore – as stressed out in the announcement – the size of the New York market is a unique opportunity in Europe to develop annual aviation activity in the US.
Tim Clark, president of Emirates, welcomed the above development, noting that “we are happy to meet and satisfy a great need for passengers, which other airlines have overlooked.”
For its part, the Minister of Tourism, Elena Kountouras, argued that “this option strategy supports efforts to further strengthen the already growing flow of visitors to Greece by the United States and the United Arab Emirates.”
